First Flush, Single Cultivar
This matcha contains leaves of only one cultivar: Okumidori. Different than the more widely available Yabukita cultivar, Okumidori (おくみどり) is allowed here to shine through with its natural chocolatey flavor and round mouthfeel.
This matcha is grown on a single estate and harvested only from spring's first leaves. These choice leaves contain the highest levels of nutrients, which translates directly to the intensity of flavor and vivacity of color. You can judge for yourself-- the first pluck is embued with a spry green hue, while later plucks tend towards a more yellow shade.
Terroir
Kagoshima Fog is a powdered green tea from outside Kirishima City in the Kagoshima Prefecture.
Mist commonly covers the leaves in the early morning, acting as a temporary shield against the sun's rays. This boosts amino acids-- a natural sweetener.
The region has experienced volcanic activity, embued the soil with rock and minerals. One can also find high minerality in the local water supply-- the same which producers used to water these plants while growing.
