Material: Black Bamboo

Production: Nara, Japan
A hand-crafted whisk made from black bamboo, ideal for frothing perfect bowls of thin matcha.
Each whisk is made from a single piece of bamboo. The fine tines are carefully split to create a delicate and intricate design, allowing for a smooth and frothy consistency when whisking your matcha. The delicate tines blend matcha with hot water, yielding a smooth, frothy brew.
The Chasen can be traced back to the 16th century when it was first introduced to Japan by the Zen monk Murata Juko. Wanting to develop a distinctly Japanese interpretation of tea culture, he moved away from elitist ceremonies and Chinese teaware. Instead, he embraced a vision of the ceremony that utilized local products (like bamboo) that ordinary people could enjoy. Juko, through his writings and practice, defined many philosophic elements of tea preparation, including humility, simplicity, and attention to detail.
